.....

Two of my core desired feelings this year are ease and grace. These two words are something I inject into my life every single day. So of course, they were going to play an essential role in the planning process for my love-fest wedding.

When we announced the date for the Big Day, I had loads of people thinking I was cray-cray. We gave ourselves just five months to plan our dream wedding – we didn’t want a long, drawn-out, 18-month engagement. We wanted to get married soon after we got engaged because we were literally bursting to be husband and wife and we didn’t want to wait a moment longer.

I went into the whole planning process with the intention that I only wanted to do it in a state of ease and grace. I only wanted that beautiful, grounded energy around my wedding. I didn’t want stress, anxiety or overwhelm to seep into my special day.

So whenever things felt stressful or overwhelming, I would walk away and revisit them later when I was in a more calm state.

You can do all things (including planning a wedding) in a state of ease and grace. It doesn’t have to be stressful and overwhelming. And it’s within your power to choose.

Here Are My Top 5 Tips On How To Plan A Love-Fest With Ease And Grace

1. Make Lists And Spreadsheets

Taking the time to get organized pays off. When you’re planning the day of your dreams, there are so many little bits and pieces to think about. So getting everything out of your head and onto paper is essential to make sure you don’t forget things, and to keep your mind calm and clear. I used Google docs, and anyone who was involved had access to the documents, which saved so much time and messiness with back and forth emails.

2. Ask For Support

Some of us find it really difficult to ask for help. We feel like we “should” be able to cope on our own. But that’s really just your Mean Girl tapping into your fears and keeping you small. The truth is, asking for help is healthy, it keeps you balanced, and it means you’re never alone. Not to mention, it makes the planning process that much more special when you’ve got your loved ones involved. My sister-in-law, mother and mother-in-law were AMAZING throughout the whole process. They were always so helpful and supportive, and I feel beyond grateful to have these beautiful women in my life.

Overwhelm and stress are a choice… Your choice!

3. Only Work On Wedding Stuff When You Are In A Calm And Relaxed State

You don’t want to bring stressed-out energy into your wedding. Like I mentioned above, if you’re feeling frazzled, take a break, change the picture, and revisit wedding stuff later when you’re in a better heart-space.

4. Delegate

I know with something as big as planning your own wedding, your Mean Girl really wants to get her control freak pants on. But remember darling: you can’t do everything. That’s not weakness, that’s reality. Letting go of some of the finer details might seem scary at first, but it allows you to focus on the bigger picture and the ultimate meaning behind your special day. I didn’t have bridesmaids, so I delegated jobs to the trio of amazing women I mentioned above, who were pumped to help out.

5. Work With People Who Are Aligned

This is essential to creating a day that truly reflects you and your partner. My darling husband and I knew that we wanted to create an experience that was steeped in love and that radiated the beautiful, conscious energy that fuels our everyday lives. Everyone who worked on our wedding was 100% aligned with our vision. From the photographer to the catering company, the videographers, the stylists, everyone. Our dream team of helpers all knew each other already (or have since become good friends) and truly believed in what we were trying to create. When you’re assembling your own crew, speak your truth, use your intuition, and go with your gut.

Now it’s over to you, gorgeous…

With only five months (151 sleeps!) until my big day this article has made me to breathe a big sigh of relief. Showing it can be done in this time frame makes me feel a whole lot better – especially since I already have nine months of planning behind me!! thank you! xx

Hey lovely, I planned my dream wedding in 3 months around the same time as you and absolutely loved following your journey. Thinks in life are only as stressful as you make them, even wedding planning. My mantra throughout was YOLO and even though it sounds silly if I said it out loud or affirmed it to myself it put a smile on my face and my heart at ease. Whenever I felt overwhelmed I remembered to feel grateful for and focus on the love that me and my beautiful man share. That gave me the strength to really enjoy each moment and not be overwhelmed by stress. Absolutely adore you and your love fest xxxx

Hi Melissa, thanks so much for sharing! It looked like an incredible unforgettable experience! Did you hire a wedding planner to oversee the day so you didn’t have to think about anything other then being present and having a good time? How many people did you have? Did you spend lots of time thrift shopping or did you hire a company to style the event? I loved the boho style! 🙂 With regards to the food, did you do that part yourself or did you have it catered? Was it a sit down meal or more casual?
Thanks for sharing! Lots and lots of love to you and your hubby xo Jen

Beautiful post! I am living in Istanbul with my partner and we are currently planning our 2015 Australian wedding 1000’s of kilometres away! It’s hard but so much fun.

I think it’s so important to never forget it’s your day. So many people have opinions about our day as neither of us is at all conventional and are staying as far away from typical weddings as we can. Plus we are doing it on a super small budget so that we can continue traveling together afterwards. Everyone wants to have an opinion but it’s so important to remember it’s YOUR perfect day, no one else’s 🙂

  5. Thank you so much for sharing this, Melissa! When my parents got divorced they both were exhausted and depressed, so I had to learn from an early ago on to do everthing on my own, just recently I am learning to ask for help, which seems so easy, but feels like failing for me.. (But I know inside it isn’t)
This was by far the best article on planning a love-fest, because usually there is a lot of unnecassary drama involved.
I love that you based the planning on your Core desired feelings, I have just read Danielle Laporte’s book and I love it, I have just not found my core desired feelings yet.
I am looking forward to your work in 2015, wish you and your beloved ones a wonderful new year, sending you lots of love from my holiday destination Thailand! xx
